Authorities have lifted a shelter-in-place order for areas in south Austin, Texas, after capturing two suspects believed to be involved in a series of random shootings that spanned from late Saturday into Sunday.<\/p>

“The shelter in place for the south Austin area has been lifted, and two suspects are in custody,” Austin police said in an updated post on X. “One remains at large in the Manor area. More information to follow.”<\/p>

Mayor Kirk Watson stated during an earlier press briefing that multiple shootings were reported \u201cthroughout the area,\u201d including at least two fire stations. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis added that the shootings appear “random” in nature and investigators have not yet identified a motive.<\/p>

Austin PD held a final update at around 7 p.m. local time, during which Watson thanked all parties for their involvement in the investigation before handing over to Davis, who reported that both suspects were in custody. One of the suspects had a warrant out for the theft of a gun from the same store which his partner had previously stolen a gun, and the stolen vehicle was reported before the theft of a weapon. <\/p>

The department received 20 service calls related to the two suspects, who opened fire on apartment buildings and fire stations, damaging a fire truck. The pair ended up stealing four vehicles across their spree. <\/p>

Both Kirk and Davis thanked the public for following alert notices, and asked for any information the public might have about Sunday’s events. <\/p>

Who Are the Suspects?<\/h2>

While the identities of the two suspects in custody have not been released, Davis noted that police are still searching for a third suspect. Earlier, police described looking for two Hispanic males in their late teens\u2014one with medium wavy hair and the other with longer hair. It is currently unclear which of the suspects have been apprehended.<\/p>

Authorities also released information on three vehicles possibly linked to the shootings: a black Honda Accord, a gold Honda, and a white Nissan Altima. Mayor Watson noted that the suspects appeared to be switching vehicles as the incidents unfolded.<\/p>

Who Are the Victims?<\/h2>

Four people have been shot; one individual sustained life\u2011threatening injuries, while the other three have non\u2011life\u2011threatening wounds. No further information about the victims has been provided, and it remains unclear if any of the victims worked at the fire stations.<\/p>

Which Neighborhoods Were Affected?<\/h2>

The initial shelter-in-place order covered a massive portion of south Austin, stretching from Skyline Park to Dick Nicholas District Park.<\/p>

While the order for south Austin has been lifted, residents in the Manor area are urged to remain vigilant as police continue to search for the final suspect at large. <\/p>

What Should Residents Do?<\/h2>

Davis urged residents to call 911 immediately if they see anything suspicious and warned the public not to approach any of the suspected vehicles.<\/p>

Additionally, residents are advised to secure their personal vehicles. “Do not leave your keys or key fob in the vehicle,” Davis cautioned, noting that several vehicles have been stolen during the crime spree.<\/p>

Police said the investigation is active and ongoing, and additional updates are expected.<\/p>
